Software Tools and Services

The Weidt Group has been a pioneer in designing software for building design and construction. We hold AutoCAD Developer license #7 and are still creating groundbreaking tools and services for architects, engineers and manufacturers. Today, The Weidt Group is a leader in creating virtual products to model and manage the complexities of the real world. Our expertise in creating models can be used to create Virtual Product models for product configuration, or to create virtual buildings for energy analysis.

Our experience with creating modeling software is at the heart of The Weidt Group’s Procedural Energy Model Builder. We’ve built applications and websites that work with DOE-2, EnergyPlus, and EnergyStar. We have mined 30+ years of simulation and measurement data to create justifiable building baselines and benchmarks for current and future buildings. We also built the software that was used to run those energy simulations for the past 30 years.

We’ve also been using the same skills to produce complex product configuration software, utility project support software, and user-friendly e-commerce websites. As the backend processes get more and more complex, The Weidt Group strives to keep the user experience as simple and intuitive as possible.

Virtual Products

Virtual Product models are not mere graphical models, but are instead behavioral models that can stand in as functional proxies of the real products themselves inside an application. Virtual Products know what they can be, and can become anything that can be manufactured and shipped. They manifest the products composition, geometry, and actual rules of manufacturability. And because Virtual Products are models, they can also provide calculated or derived data that is impossible to reference empirically, such as derived weight, shipped size, and product performance results calculated for a specified context.

Utility Program Support Software

The Weidt Group has completed and verified over 1200 demand-side management (DSM) programs in partnership with utility companies. All the software tools used to create the virtual building models was created in-house. For the project level, The Weidt Group uses EnergyBuilder℠ as a front and back end to several energy modeling simulation engines. For the program level, we created EPMS℠, the Energy Project Management System, used to track, forecast and maintain data on projected energy efficiency savings. All energy projects are managed through EPMS℠, which in addition to energy data includes project design team information and reports. A web-based version of EPMS is also available for utility partners and clients to manage their roles in the energy programs.

Financial Evaluators and E-Commerce

In addition to modeling buildings and physical products, the modeling of abstract processes can greatly improve the user experience. In the case of Rytec Doors, we create financial models that help the user choose the most cost effective door system. With Hays Marketplace, the traditional paper-based business insurance system is converted to a streamlined online process flow. The Palmetto Fuel Cell Analysis site takes potential customer input and delivers a bid for fuel cell consulting work. The Forest Stewardship Council Risk Registry helps members of the wood products industry navigate the regulations found in the FSC Controlled Wood Standard.

Advanced Energy Simulation Software

Combining two decades of energy consulting and software development with an analysis of tens of thousands of energy simulation models, we have created software that changes the paradigm for energy simulation. The Weidt Group’s Procedural Energy Model Builder enhances consistency, transparency, and cost effectiveness for everyone interested in energy modeling and energy modeling results. What once took days to analyze, now takes minutes. Our programmatic building modeling /energy simulation technologies uniquely uses multiple energy simulation engines like DOE-2 or EnergyPlus to enable consistent, high-speed simulations for a variety of user skill levels, and end data purposes. This web-enabled technology creates new opportunities to develop applications for rigorous research, code compliance, manufacturing sales tools, and Energy Design Assistance programs. Programmatic parametric modeling for energy simulations also benefits energy auditors and asset-rating systems.
