MidAmerican Energy Company's Commercial New Construction Program
The Weidt Group has provided consultation and computer analysis to assist architects and engineers in making energy-impacting design decisions for new and rehabilitated buildings under MidAmerican Energy Company's Commercial New Construction program in Iowa since 1999.
In a recent meeting, The Weidt Group’s support to MidAmerican was described as having achieved a high degree of acceptance from MidAmerican’s customers. The customers’ vote of confidence pleases Donnie Dunbar, energy consultant manager for MidAmerican. “Feedback is critical to continuously improving customers’ satisfaction,” Dunbar said. “Many of our customers have told us the level of service MidAmerican provides exceeds expectations. When we tell our customers that we will do something, we complete the work on-time and on or below budget.
“The Weidt Group helps us deliver. On behalf of MidAmerican Energy, thank you for your support.”
Strategy exploration includes lighting design, daylighting, mechanical system variations, system controls, envelope, and operating strategies. The program has addressed over 250 buildings, resulting in an average of about 30% in energy savings. The program supports the owner/design team with the following:
Consultation
MidAmerican covers the costs of The Weidt Group, who work with the design team to calculate relative energy impacts and costs associated with a wide range of design options. The program runs parallel with the design process and does not delay the overall construction schedule. The design team is responsible for final recommendations.
Computer Modeling
The Weidt Group uses a sophisticated computer modeling program to simulate the building’s energy use based on its layout, materials, load and Iowa weather conditions.
Performance Verification
Upon project completion, MidAmerican will verify the implementation and performance of the specified energy-savings measures.
MidAmerican provides design fee reimbursements to offset the design time costs associated with participating in the process, as well as owner incentives to help offset the cost of the energy-efficiency improvements.
