GEORGE PEARL HALL FINE ARTS & DESIGN LIBRARY
UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO, ALBUQUERQUE
Antoine Predock Architect
2008 Grand Prize, New Mexico Building Branch of the Associated General Contractors and Southwest Contractor
Serving the School of Architecture students and staff, this new 110,000 sf building includes studio and teaching space, administrative areas, galley/ presentation rooms and a fine arts library. The building is oriented with a long East-West axis, allowing for reduced impact of direct sun penetration and the opportunity for useful daylight harvesting.
The Weidt Group provided daylighting consulting, including sun penetration analysis and illuminance, as well as schematic design phase energy modeling for this project, which completed construction in 2007.
Daylighting Strategies
- North and south facing clerestories at library provide uniform daylight
- South facing windows with sunscreens to block direct sun at studio
- Minimal east and west openings block excess solar gain
