Augsburg College Library
Minneapolis, Minnesota
BWBR Architects
The Augsburg College Library is a library/office building in an urban campus setting. The facility is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Weidt Group served as a resource to BWBR Architects, Ericksen Ellison & Associates engineers, and Northern States Power (now Xcel Energy), the local utility. The building achieved a very high level of energy conservation. Energy and Daylighting design assistance analysis in the Schematic Design and Design Development stages enabled the use of occupancy control of outside air & VAV, scheduling of outside air, variable speed pumps and daylighting controls.
Key Strategies:
- Occupancy control of outside air & VAV
- Scheduling of outside air
- Variable speed pumps
- Daylighting controls
Results:
- Approximately 40% annual energy and operating cost savings
- Approximately 1.2 million pounds of air pollution abated per year
